Something was burning.

I could smell it in the woods,

far away from life; a potent scent of smoke

and a faint whiff of burning human flesh.

I was still at a distance when I saw the light.

Rushing to find a charred body;

a face burnt beyond recognition.

Screams were pointless. No one would hear.

I gazed at the deformed figure,

completely helpless.

Who would have done this?

I wanted to know.

A deranged mind, I thought;

no, just unlike ones I know.
